“School libraries are where it all begins. They are the opportunity to know yourself and to develop the great habit of reading. No matter what you are interested in there’s a book waiting for you and it starts in that place.” John Schumacher (http://mrschureads.blogspot.com/)
We all know reading is important. In fact, students who don’t read proficiently by the 3rd grade are 4 times more likely to drop out of school. For this reason, as well as many others, school districts place a lot of emphasis on literacy.
One of the best ways to get any child’s literacy proficiency to improve is to spark the love of reading. And, Mr. Schu (also known as John Schumacher, the Xtreme Librarian, Cool Teacher, and the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature) is doing just that!
Mr. Schu, a former third grade teacher and school teacher librarian, reads on average 2,000 books a year. He then blogs and tweets his favorite children’s books, so that his followers always know the best books to create that “spark” in their classrooms.
He loves the books his children love, and for that reason never gives a bad review. He only shares books that he endorses and students will love.
On April 19th, 2017, Mr. Schu will be at Kent ISD to help you learn how to make everyday a giant book party! Come spend a day with the Xtreme Librarian and learn how to make your library the epicenter of literacy in your school.
